Room I
The Person

Craig L. Pearce (PhD, Maryland) and Jay A. Conger (b. 1952), the Claremont-based scholar of charisma and leadership development, edited the 2003 volume that consolidated shared leadership as a field: leadership as a dynamic, mutual influence process distributed across team members rather than concentrated in a role.

Room II
The Idea in Context

Pearce and Conger consolidated evidence that leadership can rotate and distribute across team members — a serial, mutual influence process rather than a role. Teams lead themselves.

The era: Distributed & Complex — Distributed, dispersed, interdependent, embedded in interaction; leadership as learning; global competencies; combine all theories.
