Act like a leader first — insight follows action.
Herminia Ibarra (b. 1961), the Charles Handy Professor of Organisational Behaviour at London Business School — previously INSEAD and Harvard Business School — is a Cuban-born scholar of leadership and career transitions. Thinkers50 has repeatedly ranked her among the world's top ten management thinkers; Working Identity became a Thinkers50 management classic.
Ibarra inverted the introspection orthodoxy: identity change comes from outsight — acting first, experimenting with provisional selves, redeploying networks — and reflecting on the evidence. Authenticity, held too rigidly, becomes a cage that keeps leaders from growing.
The era: Human-Centered & Paradoxical — Psychological safety, vulnerability, identity, and both/and thinking. Leadership as creating the conditions for learning — and holding competing truths at once.

Fellow travelers on these threads:
Act first, reflect second: experiment with provisional selves in real situations.
Redeploy your network outward before you feel ready.
